SGT. Buddy Deel was born in the early 1930’s in Deel Holler, Webster County, WV and raised by his parents Willis and Viola Woods Deel.
Bud joined the Army at a young age where he traveled extensively and experienced different countries, cultures and jobs with the military. In the 14 years, 10 months and 26 days Bud was in the service he spent time in Korea (1 year) and Vietnam (9 months), Panama (2 years) and Germany (3 years) alongside his stateside assignments. Among these include being stationed in KY twice, CA and NY.
His only child, his son Michael was born in Germany in 1962.
Bud’s jobs in the military included being a platoon leader, colonels driver, machine “gunner” and he worked in an advisory capacity in Vietnam. He was in two wars, Korea and Vietnam, where he received two purple hearts for his bravery. In Korea he was wounded in the face and in Vietnam he was wounded in the stomach. After his time in the United States army he moved to Columbus, OH where he worked at different jobs including at Owens Illinois and Westinghouse; he also did factory work, roofing, siding, and drove a cab just to name a few. In 1995 Bud moved back to Webster County where he lived out the rest of his days.
Bud was preceded in death by just about everybody he knows; surviving include his son Michael, his wife Pam, a few nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, June 20, 2025, at Adkison Cemetery, Cowen.
