Loyd Leon "Chub" Amos, 79, of Cowen, WV, was born on January 4, 1946, and passed away on November 20, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and steady hands that shaped the world around him.
He is survived by his son, James (and wife Stephany); his daughter, Melissa; and many others who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn (Tink), whom he now joins in eternal rest.
A proud veteran, he served honorably in the United States Army and completed a tour in Vietnam. After returning home, he worked in the coal mines for 18 years, demonstrating the same resilience, grit, and dedication he brought to every part of his life.
Outside of work, he found joy in the quiet and the outdoors. He loved hunting, but more than anything he loved fishing—his true passion. He was gifted with his hands, able to craft, build, and fix anything he touched. His creativity and skill live on in the things he made and the people he taught.
He will be remembered for his humor, his stubborn determination, his huge heart, and the way he could turn the simplest moments—like a day on the water—into memories that last a lifetime.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Jim Varney officiating. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Post #62 will follow at Hickman Cemetery, Dyer. Friends may join the family for visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
