Mary Ann (Prater) Hurst, 72, of Camden on Gauley, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Summersville Regional Medical Center.

Born October 20, 1953 in Richwood, she was the daughter of the late Christine and Arden Lee Prater. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James; son-in-law, Daryl Morland; brothers: Clarence and Ray Prater; and sisters: Rose Hurst and Sylvia Pack.

Mary was a strong believer in God. She was a loving, loyal, and wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother whom will be loved and missed deeply.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: James Edward (Shelley) Hurst of Camden-on-Gauley, Loretta Hurst-Morland (Trent) of TN, Joanie (Adam) Chapman of Camden-on-Gauley, Frank Andrew (Libby) Hurst of Camden-on-Gauley, and Annie (Leon) Hurst of VA; eleven grandchildren: Kayla, James Matthew, Alexis, Alex, Ashton, Ian, Hayden, Macy, Paidon, Natasha, and Brittany; 9 great-grandchildren: Kasey, Bella, Kia, Olivia, Maria, Scott, Hunter, Raylynn, and Brock; siblings: Doy Prater, Della Prater, and Martha Short. And a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

A gathering of friends and family will be held 2-4PM, Sunday July 19, 2026 at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen.
