Maxine Kay Garvin, 70 of Birch River, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Summersville Healthcare Center. Maxine was born November 14, 1955, in Medina, OH and was the daughter of the late Maxwel and Geraldine Rauscher Thompson. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph P. Thompson and Mick Thompson; son, Garry Garvin and a grandson Cory Tyler Garvin-Ward.

Maxine was a member and attended the Powells Mountain Baptist Church until her health declined and was unable to attend; she was strong in her faith. She loved her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids; she also loved her pets, Spike, Booger and Miss Kitty.

Surviving are her daughters; Tami Garvin, Sami (Bobby) Cunningham and Pami Garvin, grandkids; Alexzandria (husband Drew), Kelsie, Felicia, Zachary, Destiny, Ethan (wife Kala), Mallory and Parker, great grandkids; Kane, Ryer, Freya, Jameson, Rosalie and Levi and also a special nephew, Mickey Thompson.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, October 23, 2026 at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Linn Schiefer officiating. Burial will follow at Birch River Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
