Milford Tyler "Jake" Mathes, Jr., 25 of Wallace, NC, died on Jan. 4, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Webster Springs, WV, Feb. 16, 1985, son of the late Milford Tyler "Blackie" Mathes, Sr., and Margaret Collins of Grantsville, WV. He has lived in Wallace for six months, previous living in Morgantown, Walton, Spencer and Cowen, WV. He was a graduate of Roane County High School. and West Virginia University, holding a B.S. degree in Forestry. He was a member of the Wallace, NC, Volunteer Fire Department. and enjoyed riding bikes and playing pool.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister: Susanne Riley and brother: Billy Riley and his grandparents.
Those surviving are mother Margaret Ann Collins of Grantsville, WV, brothers: A. J. Morris of Cowen, WV, and Mike Mathes of Grantsville, WV, sisters: Sherrie Lynn Linkous of Craigsville, WV, and Mildred "Star" Green of Grantsville, nieces: Nevaeha and Breanna Green and nephews: Jimmy & Chuckie Linkous.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Adams-Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Griggs officiating. Burial will be in the Donaldson Cemetery, Cowen, WV. Friends may call from noon until 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
