Ruby Catherine Wise Marple, 93 of Cowen, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Webster Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 4, 1921 in Wainville to Samuel S. and Iva Sims Wise and lived her entire life in Webster County.
Ruby was active in her church, Cowen Trinity United Methodist, serving as their Treasurer for 38 years; was a member of the Webster County Senior Citizens, Silver-haired Legislature, Cowen Women's Club, as well as Cowen Garden Club. She was an avid gardener especially her flowers. She said "I feel closer to God when I am digging in the soil. Just look around you, you see God's hand in everything."
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, G. S. "Sterling" Marple; parents; brothers Lee C. Wise and Ray E. Wise; and sister Ruth Postlewaite. She is survived by nieces Mary (husband George) Cox of Nitro, Vicky (husband Ben) McCune of Cass, Chirsty (husband Allen) Hanshaw of Cowen, Patricia (husband Tom) Hedrick of Akron, Jeanie Quin of Canton, Betty (husband Rick) Jordan of Camden-on-Gauley, and Norma (husband Eugene) Pettry of Dry Creek; sister-in-law Janice Wise of Cowen; many great nieces and nephews; and her dearest friends of 65 years Dorothy and Shirley Holmes who were always there when she needed them.
Special thanks go to Dr. Trenbath, nurses and staff of Webster Nursing & Rehab Center for her final care, and to Jake Bragg (her neighbor) who watched over and helped Ruby when help was needed.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Friday, November 28, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Adams-Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Ruby's life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Oz Gray officiating. Interment will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin.
