Obituary

William “Bill” Snyder of Cowen, WV, passed away February 8, 2026, at home after an extended illness. He was born on November 27, 1956, in Erbacon, WV, to Mildred Snyder and the late Warden Snyder.

Bill graduated from Webster County High School in 1975, where he began studying auto body repair. This is also where he met the love of his life, Debbie McCumbers. After graduating, Bill began pursuing his lifelong career in the auto body industry. He and his dream girl, Debbie, were married on May 23, 1976. They shared 49 wonderful years of marriage together before Debbie’s passing in August of 2025.

Bill spent most of his life working in the auto body industry, and he was a master of his trade. He and Debbie opened their business, Bill’s Body Shop, in Cowen in 1989. They ran the business successfully until 2008, when Bill decided to close the shop and take a job with Erie Insurance. He retired from Erie in 2022, and he and Debbie reopened the business that they loved.

Bill was a Baptist by faith and a member of the First Baptist Church in Cowen. He was also a proud member of the Glade Lodge #205 Knights of Pythias , where he served as treasurer and was awarded the 2024 Pythian of the Year for the state of West Virginia.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, son, and papaw. He was loved by all who knew him.

Left to keep his memory alive are his three daughters, Lynn (Shawn) Rose, Shelia (Matt) Brown, and Annie (Lundy) Bailey; seven grandchildren, Alyssa (Caleb) Hardway, Dawson Tharp, Kenadi McCoy, Logan and Lily Brown, and Jaylen and Elias Bailey; two great-grandchildren, Roman and Titus Hardway; his mother, Mildred Snyder; two chosen brothers, Chris and James Mullens; sister-in-law, Mina Bailey; and many great friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Debbie Snyder; father, Warden Snyder; mother- and father-in-law, Barbara and Stewart McCumbers; and brother-in-law, Kenny McCumbers.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Cowen, with Pastor Bryan Barnett officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen.
